Smencil Sales

Every Friday in April from 2:30-3:15pm

Smencil sales will begin Friday, April 10*. Students will be able to purchase Smencils at 2:45 each Friday before school is over. We need 6 volunteers each Friday to make this happen. Sales will happen in grades K-1, 2nd-4th, and 5th-8th. There will be 2 volunteers in each section. Please sign up using the following Bringit sheet.

Island Affair Pottery Project

The Island Affair Committee needs volunteers to complete a project for the silent auction. Each classroom will be creating a pottery piece with fingerprints of all the students. We need volunteers to go to all the classrooms and help get fingerprints onto the pottery. You will be contacted via email once a schedule is in place. PTO Meeting

Tuesday, April 14th @6:00pm in the Library

The regularly scheduled PTO meeting will be Tuesday, April 14th at 6:00pm in the Library. Childcare will be provided in the Cafeteria.

Nominations for the 2015-2016 PTO Board will take place at this meeting. Voting will take place at the May meeting. If you are interested in participating on the PTO Board next year, or know someone who would be a fantastic candidate, please attend this meeting.

These meetings count for volunteer service hours.

Proceeds go toward new classroom books.

March PTO Meeting Information

Upcoming Meeting Dates

There are a lot of PTO meetings taking place right as the New Year begins.

  • The Island Affair in April will be here before we know it and it is time to start planning! At the December PTO meeting it was decided that the funds from this Island Affair would go towards purchasing new books for classroom libraries and Guided Reading books. If you would like to help plan this event the first meeting will be Tuesday, January 6th at 4:00pm in the PTO room.
  • The Box Top Committee will be meeting Wednesday, January 7th at 4:00pm in the PTO room to discuss collection plans for the remainder of the year.
  • The Staff Appreciation Committee will be meeting Wednesday, January 7th at 5:00pm in the PTO room to discuss events for the rest of the year.
  • The Playground Committee will be meeting Thursday, January 8th at 4:00pm in the PTO room to discuss ideas for how to improve the current playground.
  • The next PTO meeting will be Tuesday, January 13th at 6:00pm in the Library.

All are welcome to attend any of these meetings and participation does count toward your volunteer hours. If you cannot make it to one of the meetings but would like to share your ideas please send an email to sigsbeepto@gmail.com.

It is the last week of school before break and it will be a busy one! There are a lot of field trips this week and a few opportunities to volunteer. Volunteer Opportunities

Holiday Gift Ideas

The Staff Appreciation Committee has put together a binder of your “Teacher’s Favorite Things” that you can view in the PTO Room.

Classroom libraries are always in need of new books. Feel free to email your teacher to inquire what books they might be looking for, or maybe share your favorite childhood book.

Did you receive a “Secret Santa” gift that might need a new home? Bring it to the office to be used for teacher/staff events throughout the year.

Important PTO Update

At the December 9,2014 PTO meeting Ms. Jannes announced that Mindy Brewster has stepped down as PTO President. According to the bylaws the Vice President, Tara Everts, will step into the role as President.  This leaves a vacancy in the Vice President role.

An election for Vice President will be held at the January 13, 2015 PTO meeting via secret ballot.

News From the Library

Getting a new iPhone?  Consider donating your old iPhone 5 to the school and get a charitable tax donation of $140.00.  The school will use the old phones as iPod touches with audiobooks and as student response devices.  Another tech tool to use with our iPad initiatives.  See Mr. Schwermer in the library.

The book fair is coming just in time for the holidays.  The bookfair will run from Dec 8 – 12 in the school library.  In addition, the online book fair will run from Nov 21 – Dec 8.  Tell anyone you might know that they can order books from the online fair and they will be delivered to the school at with no shipping charge.  They should be in prior to our going on Winter break.  The web site is http://bookfairs.scholastic.com/homepage/sigsbeecharterschool3.

MISSION STATEMENT

The Sigsbee Charter School Parent Teacher Organization is a nonprofit organization whose membership includes parents, teachers and school staff. The PTO’s mission is to enhance and enrich the students learning experience at Sigsbee Charter School. The PTO values commitment, collaboration, accountability, inclusivity and integrity. The PTO sponsors assistance to teachers, holds fundraisers for educational materials and experiences, promotes school and family social interaction, provides a non-biased forum for sharing information on issues that impact our children. It is our goal to promote Sigsbee Charter Schools main value of RESPECT, RESPONSIBILITY and RESILIENCE.
